STRESS

There are two versions of stress (at least) but only one them can kill you.  The negative effects of stress can result in depression, high blood pressure, heart attacks, strokes, uncontrolled emotions and is often the major factor in the destruction of family and marriage relationships.

Positive stress motivates us to find solutions to difficult tasks.  It helps us keep pace with phjysical and psychological demands.  It stimulates physical action, keeps our brains functioning fully and can actually help create a deeper appreciation for the relationships we have.

The difference between the two depends a lot on the outlook we develop in dealing with caregiving.  Look into the resources and articles linked to this page for some ideas on how you can deal with the stress in your life.  Check out the books that our bookstore has available.

When Stress Overcomes You

1. stop what you are doing
2. leave the house if you might cause harm
3. call a friend, relative or neighbor to step in
4. seek professional help for yourself
5. call Adult Protective Services
6. call 911 and ask for intervention

Never try to hold in stress that might erupt in violence toward others.  Elder abuse is often the result of unrelieved stress.  Need to talk about what to do?  Call our help line at 808-722-1903.
